    EDUCATION & TRAINING

JTK is in the process of being accredited by the Merseta as a private training provider and will be the interface between high schools, FET institutions and industry. This will enable JTK to engage in various training programs ie:

    Apprenticeship training

  • This will be in line with section 13 of the Manpower training Act.

  • Funding is available through the Merseta
  • Learnerships

  • This is a work based-route to a qualification

  • Short skills programs

  • These programs will be industry focussed and demand driven
  • Onsite training

  • This is an area of training that has not been adequately exploited.

  • It is JTK’s intention to capitalise on this mode of training for the following reasons

  •      - Very little or no down-time for companies
         - Employees are trained on companies own machinery and equipment.
         - Employees are trained within the company environment.
         - No extra logistical arrangements for the company.
         - Cost saving for the company.

    Evaluations

  • This is an extremely important intervention for those individuals who want to do a trade test.
  • Its serves to identify any gaps in the knowledge and skills of the individual and in so doing allows for a training intervention.
  • Trade testing for Section 13 apprentices

  • This is the final stage in the training of an apprentice
  • The trade test is funded by the Merseta
  • Trade testing for Section 28 candidates (RPL)

  • Section 13 of the Manpower Training Act allows for individuals who have worked in industry for a number of years and have learnt in an informal way to do a trade test.
  • It recognises prior learning ie; it is a RPL process.
  • Section 28 procedure:
  •      - Evaluation
         - Gap training where necessary
         - Trade test preparation
         - Trade test
         - Credit test if trade test is not successful
